Single vision spectacle lenses are lenses with a single focus point that are used to correct only distance vision or near vision or intermediate vision. Most people under the age of 40 need only a single vision correction.
At Vision Express, we offer a wide range of lenses for single vision users in a wide range of materials and prices. Our Vision Experts will guide you in selecting the appropriate lens to match your lifestyle and needs. Additionally, at Vision Express we do not charge extra for users needing high power.
Multifocal spectacle lenses are lenses with two focus points - distance and near vision. In bifocal lenses the demarcation between two zones is clearly visible. The upper portion of bifocal lenses is used for distance vision and the lower portion is used for near vision (reading purpose).
Bifocal spectacle lenses are lenses with two focus points - distance and near vision. In bifocal lenses the demarcation between two zones is clearly visible. The upper portion of bifocal lenses is used for distance vision and the lower portion is used for near vision (reading purpose).
At Vision Express, we offer bifocal lenses in Round and D-Bifocal designs. These lenses are available in plastic and polycarbonate materials only.
Progressive lenses provide continuous vision zones from distance to near including intermediate vision. Progressive lenses have no clear demarcation between the varying zones thus offering a good cosmetic appeal for users. Progressive lenses are also a better option to suit computer usage. They are the best lens choice for users above 40 years of age.
At Vision Express, we offer a wide range of lenses in the Vision Express Variview range. Our range offers a choice of designs (regular, regular plus, performance, supreme & supreme plus), materials and prices. Material of the lens is crucial in determining the overall quality of the spectacles. Better the lens material, higher the clarity and resilience to chemical, temperature & mechanical wear.
MR material is a special high quality plastic resin and is considered to be one of the best materials for spectacle lenses. (Note: plastic resin based lenses are now considered redundant )
This material offers better coating compatibility than other types of lenses.
Lenses made of MR material offer good lens design flexibility making it the perfect fit for rimless frames and frames having a high curve design.
MR material lenses are available in varying High Refractive Indexes thus making the lens thinner and lighter.
At Vision Express, we offer MR lenses in 3 indexes – 1.6, 1.67 & 1.74. Specialised MR lenses are also available in the Vision Express Monaco Collection of Lenses
Trivex lenses offer the highest shatter-resistance compared to all the other lens materials, making it ideal for an active lifestyle.
This feature also makes Trivex lenses ideal for fitting in children’s spectacles (as children tend to be playful and break spectacles more often than adults – they need extra eye protection in case of breakage)
Trivex lenses are 20% lighter than regular plastic (CR39) lenses and 10% lighter than polycarbonate lenses.
Trivex is also one of the lightest lens material available for spectacle lenses, thus making it ideal for rimless frames.
Trivex material is highly resistant to damage by chemicals, solvents and perfumes, making it the ideal lens for people who work in such laboratory or manufacturing factory conditions.
Trivex lenses provide better optical clarity than polycarbonate lenses.
They are suitable for low-to-moderate power prescriptions.
At Vision Express, we offer Trivex material lenses in the Vision Express Monaco Collection of Lenses. Trivex lenses are also available for prescription sunglasses
Polycarbonate lenses are 25% thinner than regular plastic (CR39 material) lenses and almost 50% lighter than glass lenses.
They have a very high impact resistance – 10 times stronger than regular plastic (CR 39 material) lenses.
Polycarbonate lenses are used for safety glasses, sports sunglasses and children's eyewear.
Polycarbonate lenses are very light and can be ground quite fine into thin lenses.Hence, they are highly recommended for use in rimless frames.
Polycarbonate material blocks 100% UV radiation and thus protects the eyes from the damaging rays of the sun. This is also why most sunglasses lenses are made out of polycarbonate material.
Polycarbonate lenses however have one shortcoming – they tend to get scratches easily (as compared to other plastic material lenses) and can be tinted only to a limited degree.
At Vision Express, we offer polycarbonate material lenses in 1.59 index. Most Vision Express sunglasses are also fitted with polycarbonate lenses ensuring 100% UV protection
CR 39 Material Lenses
CR 39 material or regular plastic lens material is thicker than glass and offers high transparency and good visual clarity.
CR 39 material is popular owing to its lightness and shatter resistance as compared to glass lenses.
At Vision Express, we offer CR39 material regular plastic lenses in 1.5 index and also a Middle Index material which is 15% thinner
Mineral / Glass Material Lenses
Glass has excellent optical properties and is highly scratch resistant.
Lenses made of glass tend to be heavy (50% heavier than plastic lenses) and have the least impact resistance making them brittle. Therefore glass lenses not widely used now-a-days. Glass lenses are 50% heavier than plastic lenses and the least impact resistant.
At Vision Express, we offer mineral / glass material lenses
Refractive Index and thickness of the lens are interconnected. Refractive Index is the ability of the lens to bend light. Higher refraction of light leads to reduced thickness of the lens. High index lenses provide better visual clarity and are therefore the most preferred. High index lenses are especially recommended for moderate to high power (-3.0 and upwards). It is also best suited for rimless or plastic/metal frames with thin rims.
The overall weight of the high Index lenses is lower since they have thinner edges and hence are also the most comfortable to wear. Most high index lenses also have an aspheric design*, making the lenses slimmer and attractive.
At Vision Express we offer lenses of indexes 1.5, 1.53, 1.59, 1.6, 1.67 & 1.74 across variety of materials
Aspheric Design Lenses
Aspheric design lenses are flatter, thinner and give lesser distortion than traditional design lenses.
Aspheric lenses are an excellent choice for moderate to high prescription powered lenses.
Usage of Aspheric design lenses reduces the magnified and “bug-eye” effect when worn and increases cosmetic appeal (especially in spectacle wearers with high power).
At Vision Express, we offer Aspheric lenses in lenses of index 1.6 and above
Water Repellant Coat
Spectacle lenses fog up in cold or humid weather conditions. It occurs due to condensation of moisture on lenses. Fogging can be a safety issue, since it limits one’s ability to see clearly until the fog is cleared up.
The Vision Express water repellant coat works by spreading the water droplets or fog uniformly across the lens surface making it less visible or prominent.
Water repellant coated lenses offer a higher degree of resistance against dirt and marks. These lenses are less likely to steam up and are easy to wipe and clean.
Spectacle lenses with an Anti Reflection coating reduces glare, reflections and halos. This is especially beneficial while using digital screens like computers, laptops, mobile and also while driving at night.
Anti Reflection coat is vital to improve both vision and appearance of the glasses. Anti Reflection coatings make the lenses clearer to look at and look through. To make the lens anti reflective, special multi layered coatings are applied on the front and back of the lens and often have a slight hint of green in them (which is only visible when the lens is held towards a light source and does not tint vision when worn).
Anti Reflection coat reduces internal and external reflections on the lens, thereby improving the overall appearance. With an anti-reflection coating, the spectacle lenses appear thin and your eyes look naturally attractive.
Scratch Resistant Coat
There is no lens material available that is completely scratch proof however, when the lenses are treated with a scratch resistant coating, they become extremely resistant to unwanted scratches.
It is highly recommended that a scratch resistant coating is opted for kid's spectacle lenses as they are - highly prone to mishandling and scratches.
While some people think tinted lenses are merely for cosmetic purpose, the right tint can enhance vision and makes life hassle free. Tints come in solids, gradients or double gradients and add a unique touch to your lenses.
At Vision Express, we offer tints for most of our spectacle lenses. Tints are available in the following colours
This tint has been known to help reduce eyestrain in brightly-lit offices. This is often recommended for computer wearers.
Often known as blue blockers, yellow tints are a favorite of skiers and shooters because they provide excellent depth perception and low light contrast.
Yellow lenses are not recommended when accurate color perception is necessary.
Similar to the yellow tint, brown tints provide excellent contrast because they filter some blue light, but not as much as the yellow tint.
Brown lenses are excellent general purpose lenses.
Human eye is most sensitive to green light. Green tint gives the highest contrast and greatest visual acuity of any tint.
Green tints can enhance contrast in low-light conditions.
The most popular tint, a gray tint provides good protection from glare and does not overly distort colors.
Gray tinted lenses are excellent for general purpose and for driving.
Purple tint allows for natural colour perception while offering some shade from the sun. It is also fashionable and recommended for cosmetic purposes.
Blue tints are not recommended for outdoor use because it can increase glare. It can be used as a fashion tint if used in lighter shades.
If a blue tinted lens is desired, be sure to consider the option of a brown or gray polarized lens with a blue flash mirror coat.
With the addition of tints you can make your regular spectacle lenses into prescription sunglasses lenses.
**The above coloured tint samples are for reference purpose only. Kindly visit our store to see lens samples of these tints.
Photochromatic lenses are spectacle lenses that darken automatically when exposed to sunlight and they return to normal once back indoors. An added benefit is that photochromatic lenses shield eyes from UVA and UVB rays.
Almost all types of lens materials and designs, including high-index lenses, bifocals and progressive lenses can be added with photochromatic variant.
It's definitely a good idea to consider photochromatic lenses even for children too as they tend to be outdoors (and thus need good UV protection) and the eyes continue to develop up to the age of 12.
